Since I joined the Catholic church 20+ years ago, I have noticed that many people focus on what not to do or giving something up during the season of Lent. I usually try to focus on a good habit, i.e. more quiet time, attend daily mass, etc. I have really struggled with where my focus should be this year and I have still not decided. But I know that I am so thankful for the many blessing I have received this past year. This morning I am overflowing with gratitude. Everything isn’t perfect…far from it…but it is so much better than last year. Raising children can be incredibly painful, incredibly joyful, incredibly exciting and incredibly unpredictable. So, I am grateful for the many ways the Lord has come through for me where Andy is concerned this year.
My mother used to share the “Golden Rule” with me all the time…”Do unto others, as you would have others do unto you.” “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.” John 13:15 I realize now that the Golden Rule isn’t something my mother or grandmother made up, it is/was Jesus speaking to the disciples. I have an example not only of how I should act, but what I should do. Juse a random thought I had this morning.
Last thing…the peace that I have received as a gift from God is one of my most precious gifts. Check this out…it is so beautifully written.
Lord, thank you for this day and this season of Lent. I have much to accomplish today, please help me stay calm and remind me of the peace you give to me. Lord, thank you for the many, many blessings you have given me, the ways you have helped my family. Thank you for the gift of your son. I thank you for the gifts of my son and husband. Thank you for the outlet I have in this blog to share my thoughts. Thank you for those that read it, bless them and their families.
Peace & Blessings………

B-E-A-Utiful! Have a great day!
Great post, Mary. Like you, I try to focus on growing in Christ rather than focus on the giving up. I do fast but I believe the purpose of fasting is to let go of the world so that we can grow closer to Him – to make more room. Thank you for linking to my post, I appreciate it. May God bless us all with His peace this Lent and always!
I love your perspective, Mary! Thanks for sharing this.
thanks for stopping by my blog, and yah, I see your *four* year old today;-)
and I agree with having Lent be a time to focus on maintaining/implementing a good habit vs. saying "no this' or you can't have that.
