Have you met Lisa-Jo Baker?  If not, then you should.  On Fridays she hosts a community called 5 minute Friday.  She gives a word prompt and a bunch of people join in and write…for 5 minutes without editing.  No back tracking, no re-writing, no AGONIZING over ever word and phrase.  Just write.  Link up and the most important thing…you have to comment on at least a couple of the post the link up just before you.

If you have never participated, give it a try.  The rules are simple.  Check them out and get the button code here.

Five Minute Friday

this weeks word: QUIET

GO…

QUIET…the first morning I woke up after Hurricane Sandy roared up the east coast I was surprised at how quiet it was.

I had no power.  There was no refrigerator running, no coffee pot perking, no news on the radio or TV.  It was a quiet like I don’t hear too often.

I wrote in my journal…”eerily quiet.”

I am thankful that I only lost power for a while.  I didn’t lose my home or my family.

My pictures.

Or my car.

Or my livelihood.  Just power.  That is all I lost.  And I only lost that for 18 hours.

QUIET…what a blessing.

A chance to be still.  To think about how much I take for granted flipping a light switch.

How much I take for granted making coffee.  Having ice.  Or a glass of cold milk right out of the fridge.

QUIET…a blessing especially when there is no noise.

STOP

Lord, I pray for those still without power, those without shelter and those still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Sandy.  And I pray for those people in this world who live without power, water and shelter all the time….everyday.
