This is the confidence we have in approaching God:
that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
And if we know that he hears us
—whatever we ask—
we know that we have what we asked of him.
1 John 5:14-15

When I was a child, I thought this verse meant that I could ask for anything and since He heard my prayer he would grant whatever I asked…like passing a math test, having someone want to be my friend, not looking like a goofball on the bus…you know, those types of things.  As I grew to be an adult and began to study His word more, I made note of the words preceding “he hears us.”  You know, “according to his will.”  Even today, I have to remind myself sometimes that my will isn’t always HIS will and I often add that phrase to my prayers…”if it be your will, Lord” or something along those lines.  One thing I know is ALWAYS his will…that I give thanks for the many blessings I have in my life.  So, today I continue adding to my gratitude list…

This is the latest in the day I think I have ever posted on my blog.  I didn’t have time this morning and yet, when I got home, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude.  I felt I had to share.

Joining the Gratitude Community at Ann’s place.

Lord, thank you for the many, many gifts and blessings I have in my life.  Sometimes I am completely overwhelmed by the gifts You have given me.  I don’t deserve them, but I am grateful for them.  Lord, help me to recognize Your will for me and while I can pray for those around me to seek and obey Your will, please help me remember that I can only be responsible for me and my obedience.  Thank you for your Son, the gift of Easter and resurrection…at times, Lord, your gifts are overwhelming.

I hope you have had a great day…or if you are reading this in the morning that you have a great day.
