little tongue what you say, oh be careful little tongue what you say for the Father up above he is looking down in love, so be careful little tongue what you say.
I learned this little song in Sunday School. I still need to be reminded of this as an adult.
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths,
but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs,
that it may benefit those who listen.
Ephesians 4:29
May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.
Psalm 19:14
I am pretty sure that I have written about my quick tongue in this space before. This verse from Ephesians was on the homepage of Biblegateway.com this morning. I woke up late this morning and I don’t have an hour plus to sit, read, think and pray, blog, etc. This verse spoke to me to day…probably for a reason.
Lord, please help me to watch my tongue today. Help my words to be pleasing to you. Be with those that need you in a special way today, especially those that are hurting and alone.
Things with my tongue are getting better – I think I just needed a reminder. Often our words, said in innocence can still do harm.
Am I the only one that has to watch my tongue?!?!?
Oh no Mary, I have to watch my tongue too. Keeping it reined in is tough sometimes and my words spill out before I can stop them. I'm with Kathleen – thank you for this reminder!
The older I get the more I realize how careless I can be with my words. It's probably true that if people only spoke things that were necessary and good and uplifting, we'd probably be a much quieter world. Thanks for this reminder!
Hi Mary, I came across your blog this morning and I'm so glad I did! 🙂 Thanks for this gentle reminder of guarding what we say.
The uncontrolled tongue can do terrible damage, and we can't stop the results once it has spoken or reverse the damage it can do. I am pretty sure I need to examine myself for sysptoms of critical and hurtful talk, and pray to God for guidance that He will purify my heart and give me self control so that I speak words that are pleasing to Him. 🙂
Oh, my tongue needs a guard on it as well! I find when I am close to Him, I can draw on HIs strength and have self-control and when I am not, well it's not good! Thanks for reminding me, Mary 🙂
No Mary, you are not the only one who needs to watch your tongue. Thanks for the reminder.
Oh, yes, Mary! Thank you so much for the reminder. We must all remember to keep our tongues in check!
Hope you have a wonderful week.
Blessings

Lol! My verification word was login and the verse "Remove the log from your own eye before removing the speck from your brothers" came to mind 🙂
