“Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” I Thessalonians 5:16-18 (KJV)
As a kid, when I would hear “pray without ceasing” I would envision someone with their head bowed down and their eyes closed.  Afterall, at the time I thought that was how you prayed.  As I got older and grew in my faith I realize that, for me, this verse is speaking about an attitude of prayer.  An attitude where I am striving to be vigilant in my walk with the Lord, striving to be always giving thanks, striving to be ever aware of HIS presence in my life, striving to be what HE wants me to be…as a Christian, I am ever and always on a journey, to attain a closer walk with Him who died for me, rose for me and has given me the gift of eternal life.
Prayer is “talking to God about what we are doing together. Prayer is sharing my concerns, desires, needs with God. It is listening to God about His desires and concerns. This is our walk together, and out of that walk, I pray.” Dallas Willard
Oh, yeah, and then there is the part of a prayerful attitude that involves LISTENING to God.
The latter part of the verse, “in everything give thanks;…concerning you.”  Well, that is another lesson that I have had to learn and frankly, I am still learning.  It is also a reflection for another day!
This blog is my spiritual journal…out there for everyone to see, but it is also the place that gives me pause as I begin my day to say “Thank you, Jesus, for everything you have done for me. Thank you for the readers of the blog.  Lord, please help me to have a prayerful attitude and to live my life as a reflection of you.”
Do you have trouble listening to God?  How do you practice a prayerful attitude?
Have a great Friday…I’ll be back on Monday.
Blessings….
