For I command you today to love the LORD your God,
to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands,
decrees and laws; then you will live and increase,
and the LORD your God will bless you
in the land you are entering to possess.
Deuteronomy 30:16
I was struck by this line today. “In the land you are entering to possess.” I know this was written to the children of Israel as they wandered in the desert before they entered the Promised Land….after wandering for 40 years.
Allow me a bit of leeway here…is the same not true for you and me today? Are we not commanded to:
love the Lord?
walk in obedience to Him?
keep His commands?
I understand we no longer live under the law, because of his death and resurrection we live under grace but the essence of this passage is still true for you and me.
Today.
In the world in which we live.
Right now.
I find myself drawn to the line “In the land you are entering to possess”…I find myself wondering what land He has waiting for me to possess? He has something wonderful and beautiful for me. I can love the Lord, walk in obedience and keep His command and then possess the wondrous life He has planned OR I can choose my own path and probably self-destruct.
I want to possess what he has for me, because I KNOW it is something BEAUTIFUL! It is something GOOD.
He can make my messy, His neat.
He can make my ugly, His beautiful.
He can make my sorrow, His joy.
Grasp it…embrace it…it is out there, waiting for me and you to POSSESS it!
Lord, I continue to be amazed at the ways in which you speak to me. The passages that I have read and heard all my life, come alive in new ways. It is as if they are flowers blooming in my heart. Thank you, Lord.
And you? What is blooming in your life these days?
"In the land you are entering to possess"–I love this–and it ties in with 'my spiritual garden'–in a way–because I felt there was more there for us than what I was taking hold of.
Great post; I had to ponder on "In the land you are entering to possess" too. I think God has really made the same requirements for all of us today, only the land I am thinking about isn’t here on earth but in the Promised Land of heaven! :)He wants all people to be saved, all people to live a happy life in eternity!
I pray all is going well for you, and that the flowers continue to bloom in your heart! 🙂 Denise
I loved these words: "He can make my messy, His neat. He can make my ugly, His beautiful. He can make my sorrow, His joy."
This is all so true! Beautiful! It reminds me of the saying, "God can write straight with a crooked pen." (Or something like that, I tend to muddle up sayings 🙂
Such beautiful thoughts Mary.

Your writing just keeps getting freer and more beautiful and meaningful–I will ponder on your question today.
That is really a great thought, Mary. It's so true. I want to live in the land God has for me.

great words… not sure what is going on with me, a mixture of saddness, and grief for a season …
