I think it is time to “batten down the hatches.” The wind is blowing REALLY hard here today. There is a wind advisory in effect until 6 p.m. Wind gusts may be as high as 45 – 50 mph at times. As I hear the wind blow, I find myself thinking about things that are outside. The deck furniture was brought in a couple of months ago, but the grill and a couple of chairs are still out there. Where are they now? Is the grill cover still on the grill? I wish I had thought to anchor it down yesterday. I got a 6 mile walk in yesterday…glad I got that done. It will be a rough day to go for a walk today. I have walked a few times when the wind was blowing very hard. At times it seems like I can’t move, like there is an anchor around my ankles. Yet, when it is windy in my soul, I NEED an anchor. Where is my anchor? Better yet, WHAT is my anchor? According to one reference the term “batten down the hatches” means to prepare for trouble. Windy times can certainly bring about trouble.  What have I done to “batten down my hatches?”

My prayer today is that I anchor myself in the Lord. I find myself thinking about Proverbs 31 and the qualities of a virtuous woman….oh, that I could be that woman or at least a shadow of that woman. I found an interesting reflection on Proverbs 31. It was different than any I can remember reading before.  Will I strive to reach those heights or be blown about by the winds of my life?

Lord, help me to strive to reach the goals you laid out in Proverbs 31. Please help me to speak wisely, kindly and thoughtfully. And, Lord, PLEASE help me to hold my tongue today. Please help me to anchor myself in you, Lord, for “you are my rock, my fortress, my deliverer.” Ps. 18:2  YOU are what I need to “batten down my hatches.”

May you find your anchor today….
